Kenny Bean



Kenny Bean (trumpet) was born and raised in Baltimore, MD.  He earned his Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Ryan Anthony, Jack Sutte and Roy Poper.  He earned his Master of Music Education from Jackson State University. 


Kenny has performed with a variety of ensembles such as the Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, Philadelphia Chamber Choir, Opera South, the Great Hall Chamber Orchestra and the Atlantic Brass Band.  He has also performed many other genres of music, including funk, jazz, Dixieland, afro-beat and gospel.  He has recorded with Symphony in C (formerly the Haddonfield Symphony Orchestra) and the Monocacy Chamber Orchestra. He also performs and records with hip-hop artist Thee Phantom & The Illharmonic Orchestra.


As a teacher, Kenny served on the faculties of St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, the Jubilee School, and Settlement Music School.  Since the summer of 2001, he has taught at Kinhaven Music School’s Junior Session.  In 2007, Kenny was the wind/brass instructor at the Premier Orchestral Institute of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.  During the 2008-09 school year, he worked as a General/Vocal music teacher in the School District of Philadelphia. Kenny is currently a teaching artist for the Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra’s unique Orchestrating Leadership program where inner-city youth of Philadelphia are taught leadership skills through conducting.


Kenny has served as Assistant Conductor of the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra’s Symphonetta and Interim Conductor of the Junior String Philharmonic of the Lehigh Valley.  He was recently appointed Assistant Conductor of the Young People’s Philharmonic of the Lehigh Valley.  Kenny is currently living in Bethlehem, PA and freelances in both New York and Philadelphia.
